I don’t like burpees.  Who does?

Still, my nephew and I decided to do a burpees challenge.  I like the fact that he is enjoying doing something with me.  He will be 15 years old in a few weeks and I cherish whatever moment he wants to spend with me.  Today, Sunday, will be day 7 which means 25 burpees.  I can do 5 in a row and then I start to get tired.  It does get easier, right?

Burpees Challenge

On Thursday and Friday mornings I went to my school to check out my room.  Thursday was the first day that the teachers could start setting up their room.  I went for about 45 minutes because I had to leave.  I am part of another committee and was meeting that week from 8:30 am-3:00 pm.  I didn’t go on Monday but did go Tuesday-Friday. Exhausting work but also rewarding.

I will be going back on Monday to start and finish setting up my room.  My goal is to have it ready by Monday, August 21, but if I don’t have it done then for sure by Wednesday, August 23.  <<First day of school for the kids.

It feels overwhelming because I have so many boxes.

As mentioned last week, I am no longer training for a marathon so I haven’t been running much.

On Saturday I went running but with no specific goal.  I just wanted to run as fast and as slow as I could.  I ran 2 miles then saw some friends heading back to Fleet Feet and ended up running back with them.  Total 4.02 miles.

Garmin 8.12.17

I did the same thing on Sunday.  Total 5.02 miles.  Total for the week is 9.02 miles.

Thanks to Facebook for reminding me of my love for the Brooks Launch (from 2015).

And another reminder of my first half marathon in 2006.

Distance Classic Half Marathon

The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie.  I’ve watched it various time and have also seen the musical version, maybe 3 times?  I saw that the movie was again at the theater so yesterday I went with my nephews and niece.  Actually it was a sing-a-long so my niece and I were singing some of the songs.  Love it!

What is your favorite Disney movie?  Want to do the burpees challenge too?

I’m linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.  This week’s host is Michelle @ Running With Attitude.  Please stop by her blog and show her some love!

Hoping everyone had a good week!

  1. OH a burpee challenge – that is no joke! I know that burpees are a great experience but they are definitely not my favorite thing to do in the world.

I love your new running sneakers!

    • Haha, not my favorite either but my nephew reminds me everyday that we need to do them. He won’t let me quit. 😀

  2. The Lion King is one of the family’s favorites! Our oldest daughter especially has a fondness for it (despite her fear of “big cats”). We took the family to see the Broadway production (several years ago when it came to Des Moines). WOW. The first 20 minutes alone were worth the money we paid for all five of our tickets…it had me in tears.

    • I know what you mean. I was in awe and felt like a little kid every single time I saw it.

  3. I’ve seen the traveling Broadway production of Lion King. It was excellent. I’m pretty sure my wrists would not hold up to the burpees. Too many years of water skiing have done them in. I missed your post about not training for a marathon. Are you going to pick another race later on?

  4. My favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast, but the Lion King is second. I’ve seen both shows too. I know I would’ve loved the sing a long since I know all the Disney songs from my childhood.

    • Have you seen the new Beauty and the Beast movie? I saw it a few weeks ago and loved it.

  5. Burpees are tough! How great you are doing the challenge with your nephew. That’s quality bonding time for sure! All the best with the new school year. My teenager just drove herself to school for the first time. Sigh.

    • Thanks! They are tough and I look forward to a rest day. 😂 But I love how determined he is and that makes me smile.

I went to school this morning to set up and am exhausted!! Wow, your daughter drove herself to school today!!! That must not have been easy for you. 😢

  6. I want to do the burpee challenge! lol I’m crazy, right? I may not like doing burpees but they are wonderful for conditioning. I actually started doing them yesterday at the gym. Are you supposed to do them straight through? I can do 30 in sets of 10…..100 seems really daunting though.

I missed your post last week. I’ll have to go back and catch up. Glad to hear that you already have another marathon picked out!

    • Then we are BOTH crazy!! 😂😂 I’ve never done this challenge so I don’t know about doing them straight through. I don’t. I can do 5, stop for a bit and then continue. I am just waiting for the day when they won’t feel so hard.

  7. Catching up on your posts … I think you made the right decision about the marathon if your heart’s not in it now. Life is too short! I don’t love burpees, but they do get easier — but never easy! — if you make yourself do them.

  8. I did the 30 burpees for 15 day challenge this spring, it was tough. I can’t imagine surviving past day 8! I think they do get a little easier.

    • Maybe I should have started with that challenge and then move on to 30 days. Not sure what I was thinking. 🙂

  9. That’s cool you are doing a burpee challenge with your nephew! I’m not a fan of burpees but I know that doing them is a good workout! School starts for my boys on the 23rd too! It’s coming up so soon!!

    • Thanks Sharon! I hope your kids are excited about going back to school. I hope they have a wonderful year!!

  10. That burpee challenge is intense!! I don’t think I’d be able to do it lol!

Aladdin is definitely my favorite Disney movie. I like the Lion King and Beauty and the Beast too, but Al has always been my fave!

    • It is intense! Not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to do this.

I like Aladdin as well. Would love to see the musical as well.

  11. Burpees never get any easier no matter how many I do. I can do about a minute during my cardio circuit, but I don’t think I could do a challenge like that – not anytime soon at least! MY favorite Disney movie is Hercules 🙂 I grew up loving Little Mermaid, so Ariel is definitely my favorite princess, but Herc has my heart!

    • I’ve never seen Hercules. I remember when it was out but never went to see it. And hey a minute is better than nothing! Great job!

  12. I love that you and your nephew are close and do things together. Also, we started distance running at around the same time. My first half was in 2005.

    • He is growing up so fast! I remember when he would like to go to Target and Costco with me but now no more.
