Weekly Workouts, June 10-16, 2013

Workouts this week:

Tuesday – 6 x 800 (90 sec RI)
Done.  I had so much energy and wanted to do more.  It must be the chia seeds in my green monster smoothie that I drink almost every day.

Thursday – 2 miles easy, 3 miles @ short tempo, 1 mile easy
Did not run.

Saturday – 8 miles at HMP, 10 minutes walking
I ran 3.13 miles for a virtual 5K.  It was another gorgeous day to run along the lakefront.

Training for the Fort2Base 10 NM

Total miles ran this week is 9.08.

Since I am doing The L.A.T.E. Ride at the end of the month, I decided to take out my bike for a ride. And yes, I did that along the lakefront too.  It was tough at the beginning but then I got the hang of it. I did 2 miles and took a break because my quads were on fire and my seat was not so comfortable (even with a seat cushion).  I did another 2 miles and took another break. I guess that was my warmup because I turned around and rode 4 miles straight for a total of 8.

Weekly Workouts, June 10-16, 2013

After today I truly admire those people that do LONG, LONG bike rides.  What I plan to do before my bike ride is to shop for another bike.  The one I have is a good one but it is a mountain bike and HEAVY.  I also want a more comfortable seat.  I would have pedaled longer today if my behind was not hurting.  As for the quads being on fire, breaks solves that problem.  🙂

Weekly Workouts, June 3-9, 2013

Workouts this week:

Tuesday – 400, 600, 800, 1200, 800, 800, 400 (90 sec RI)
I was tired and did not complete all of the workouts.  I managed to only run 3.56 miles.

Thursday – 2 miles easy, 3 miles @ short tempo, 1 mile easy
I was determined to run but when I got to the gym I realized I did not have a running bra.  So instead of going home to get the bra and return to the gym, I went to Target instead.  I know.  Excuses. Shame on me.

Saturday – 8 miles at HMP, 10 minutes walking
I did not run on Saturday morning because I went to Evanston to volunteer at Exchange 35 for the Madison to Chicago Ragnar Relay.  It was fun but also tiring.  I was responsible for directing runners and vans to the exchange area.  Once I was done, I headed home to eat and take a nap because I had a birthday/baptism party at 4pm.  It was definitely a LONG day for me.

Weekly Workouts, June 3-9, 2013

Since I did not run on Saturday I had to run on Sunday.  It was a gorgeous morning for a run. However, I was kind of tired and struggled to run 9.01 miles. Yes, I am adding the .01 because that’s what it shows in my Garmin.

Weekly Workouts, June 3-9, 2013

Total miles ran this week is 18.48.I am hoping this week I do a better job with my workouts and runs. My next race isn’t till June 22nd in Seattle and I am so glad about it because it is tiring to travel and race three races back to back to back.

Weekly Workouts, May 27-June 2, 2013

Workouts this week:

Tuesday – 12 x 400 (90 sec RI)
I did not run.  Instead I took a break because I had some pain on my right side.  It does not hurt when I walk or run but only after I run.  I went to get a massage last week and the masseuse told me that it was the oblique muscles causing the pain.  She told me I should be OK to run.  I know I experienced that pain after the Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon but don’t know exactly why.

Thursday – 2 miles easy, 3 miles @ short tempo, 1 mile easy
I did not run.  Still taking a break.

Saturday – Half Marathon
I ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon on Sunday.  It was a good race. A flat course with many turns and more turns.  That was the only downside of it.  I will write a race recap in a few days.

Just Keep Running!

Weekly Workouts, May 20-26, 2013

Workouts this week:

Tuesday –  6 x 400 (400 RI)
Done.  I had another meeting after school on Tuesday so I ran instead on Wednesday.  I felt really good throughout these workouts.

Thursday – Yoga
Done.  Another 1.5 hours of hot yoga.  This time it went much better for me.  I remembered to take my mat, long towel to cover it, and hand towel to wipe the sweat off my face.  This time I drank a big bottle of Gatorade prior to the class and I did not feel like I was going to pass out.

Saturday – Half Marathon
I ran the Boston’s Run to Remember Half Marathon on Sunday.  It was a GREAT race!  I loved every minute of it.  I always get chills when I listen to the national anthem and today was just even better.  There was a dedication for Officer Sean Collier.  He was the 4th person killed as a result of the tragedy at the Boston Marathon.

Total miles ran this week is 18.33.

Upcoming race is the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon on Sunday, June 2nd.  Finally, I will meet the FANTABULOUS Rebecca Massie from Run Like a Girl, and Mean It!  She has a great sense of humor, runs super fast, and is supportive and dedicated to her students.  If you don’t follow her blog, make sure to do so because you will love it.  I told her that my goal is to cross the finish line before her.  Note that she is running the full marathon and starts at 6:15 am.  I will be running the half and start at 6:45.  Did I mention that she is a speedy runner?  Wish me luck!

Just Keep Running!

Weekly Workouts, May 13-19, 2013

Workouts this week:

Tuesday – 5 x 1000 (400 RI)
Done.  Next week’s speed workouts are 6 x 400s.  Yay, I like those!!

Thursday – Yoga
I went to my first bikram yoga class on Thursday.  It was not easy but I found it to be relaxing.  I made a few rookie mistakes (I forgot to take my mat so I had to rent one, need longer towel to cover mat, extra towel to wipe off sweat from face, and drink a gallon a water prior to class) and don’t want to make them again for my next class.  The plan is to go again on Thursday and Friday this week.

Saturday– Half Marathon
I ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon today.  It was a gorgeous day (no rain) and not hot at all. The course was blah but not horrible.  I am even pleased with my finish time of 2:23:34!

Upcoming races:  Boston’s Run to Remember Half Marathon on May 26 and Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon on June 2.
