Weekly Mileage-12.jpg

With school being out last Friday you would think that I would actually be on break this week, right?  Nope.  It was all work.  Well, Monday I went to my uncle’s funeral with my mom.  It was actually a nice day (not cold and no rain).  The rest of the week was spent in school working on our reading, writing, and social studies curriculum.  We had to update pacing guides, curriculum maps, and PBA (performance based assessments).  It was a lot of work and there were many times where I was frustrated.  We did not finish our work and will possibly be meeting July 31 and August 1.

After I complained so much about the cold and long winter, we had some HOT days this week.  Humid days too and then some rainy days.  Definitely not consistent here.

I was supposed to run 3 miles on Monday but when I was getting ready in the morning at my mom’s, I realized that I had two sets of running clothes but no shoes.  🙁  So I did 3 easy miles on Tuesday.  Later on in the day I went to see my mother and had pozole for dinner.  Yummy!

Did you run on Wednesday for Global Running Day?  I did!  I wasn’t planning on but ended up running 5.34 miles.  It had been raining and it was HUMID.  I almost skipped the run because of the rain but eventually it did stop.  Despite the weather, it was a fun run!  Aren’t my shoes cute?

Thursday was 1.5 mile warmup, 2×5 minutes and 3×2 minutes, and 2 miles cool down.  It was a tough workout!  I did better than I expected and proud of it.

Workout-80.jpg

Friday morning I woke up a little dizzy and nauseous and was uncomfortable the rest of the day.  I did a few errands after school and then went home to bed.  Saturday’s run was tough.  I don’t know if I was still tired from Thursday’s workout or I was just simply tired.  I am still trying to figure out this fueling thing.  You would think that by now I would have figured it out?  Nope.  Still working on it.  I drank one serving on the way to the Arboretum.  I also had two gels with me just in case but did not use them.  Maybe I need more fuel?

The beginning of the run was tough but then somehow I felt better in the middle of it.  But by the end I was struggling again.  The last 2 miles were not my slowest but they were my toughest ones.  Check out the butterfly made with legos.  It has almost 40,000 pieces of legos!

  1. I am so sorry for your loss, Zenaida. I always thought the end of the school year, with the curriculum days that followed the student days, were the worst! I was always so ready to be DONE! You had a good running week! Cute shoes!!!

  2. Sorry to read about your uncle.

Wow- post school time is still so busy! You did a great job still fitting in some solid runs and a great workout, way to go!

  3. Fueling is so tricky, even when you have been at it for several years. I think I’ve finally gotten back on a good fueling plan after a couple of years of experimenting. That said, even a good “plan” can be off if the weather or race course is challenging. Do you have a race coming up?

    • My race is in Missoula, MT on June 30th.

In the past I’ve used Huma gels but now want to use more of UCAN since I have 2 tubs. I bought those when I thought I was going to run more marathons. 🙂

  4. So sorry about your uncle. I’m sure that’s really tough for your mom too. Your shoes are super cute! You are lucky you can wear Brooks. They never ever work for me. The Lego animals are amazing!

    • Thanks Marcia. It has been tough for her. My uncle wasn’t doing well (he had a stroke years ago) and over the years just got worse. He was the oldest brother but regardless it is still tough to see someone pass away.

  5. Wow – you really had a busy week even though school is out!

I’m glad that you were able to spend some time with your mom in the beginning of the week. Again, so sorry for the loss of your uncle.

    • Thanks Kim. These past few months have been very busy for me. It is something that I was not used to and it is taking some time to get adjusted to it. I think I got it now. 🙂

  6. oh…i would love to have some pozole right about now!! even though we only ate it really in the winter; I love it so much. You are a lucky duck!!

fueling is really hard. I’m STILL trying to figure it out. I try to build up carbs the way I build up mileage. So if I am running one day less than one hour, it’s normal carbs. If I’m running more than one hour I start the carb build up at breakfast (assuming I’m running later). And if I have a long run I eat more carbs at dinner the night before (if I’m running the next morning). Gels are definitely good for when you run more than one hour – those you want to try every 20 – 40 minutes. Obviously that works differently for everyone.

Sorry to hear about your uncle.

    • Pozole is one of my favorite foods!

I usually take Huma gels on a run but now want to try something different and make my own gel using Generation UCAN.

  7. Shoes are on point! Fueling is still something I struggle to nail down. It changes every cycle as our bodies change and as the weather changes.

    • Thanks! I thought I had fueling figured out but obviously have not. I want to make my own gel using Generation UCAN. I know of another blogger that made it as well and has worked out for her.

  8. Most people (like me!) don’t realize how much work goes on behind the scenes for teachers. Hopefully you are getting it all wrapped out and can be “out for summer” soon! I had never heard of pozole, but I do like hominy! My family thinks hominy is odd, but I’m all for it. It’s very hard for us to find it in stores around me.

    • Today was the first day of summer school and it was hectic and chaotic. Now I am counting down the days to go till it is over. I thought the last day was July 5th but I found out that it is actually the 3rd. 🙂

Pozole is one of my favorite foods. I love it in the summer, winter, fall, and spring.

  9. I’m sorry it was such a frustrating work week last week and that you weren’t feeling well toward the end of the week 🙁 Hope you’re better now. And I love those pink shoes from your Wednesday run!

  10. Fueling always seems to be hard. And since it was so cool for so long, it was hard to acclimate to warmer temps. You got out there & did your best — that’s all anyone of us can do!

Love your pink running shoes. So cute!

  11. It was warm, but I sure don’t consider 70s hot! I’m actually kind of enjoying these cooler temps. I can sit out in my backyard and not roast!

Humidity, that’s a different story. Saturday was steamy!

    • Haha! I guess you are right. I guess with the sun it felt warmer/hot for me. Right now I have some days in which it feels too hot for me and I am sweating a lot more.
