Weekly Mileage-14.jpg

I had a great week and, yes, I fell again on one of my runs.  Monday was again 3 miles.  I like the short run to start off the week.  Saw some pretty colors which is not unusual considering all of the rain we’ve been having here.

I took Tuesday off from work to take my sister to the airport.  First a run, of course.  I had to run 5 miles and it was right before the turnaround that I tripped and fell.  I couldn’t believe it!  I was on the ground for a few seconds before I got up.  I checked for blood and saw none so I knew it wasn’t that bad.  I scraped a little my knees and my chin.  I was happy I did not hit my head.  I thought about calling an Uber to get back home but decided to just keep running and maybe walk too if needed.

I was very sore the next day.  I could barely walk.  I took ibuprofen during the day to feel better.  And I did!  🙂

The photos below are from Saturday.  Still a little purple but definitely no longer sore.

Thursday’s run was fun!  I had to do 2 miles warmup, 5×2 minutes with 2 minutes recovery, 5×1 minute with 1 minute recovery, and 2 miles warmup.  It was a humid morning too!  I was extra careful and looked down a lot because I was afraid of falling again.

I nailed each interval except the last one.  Guess I was tired.  🙂

Saturday’s run was at The Arboretum.  I haven’t been sleeping well and then sometimes wake up at 3 or 4 and cannot go back to sleep.  I didn’t sleep well Friday night and I struggled to get up the next morning for my run.

It was a gorgeous day for a run!  It did get sunny and warm later on in the morning.  I had to run 9 miles (my last run before my half marathon) with 3 miles at marathon pace (10:43).  It took me about 3 miles to actually feel good to run.  I did want to quit halfway but knew I would probably regret it later.  Plus I have my 3 half marathons in August and quitting is not going to get me there.

Today’s run was at Lake Katherine.  I was also there on Tuesday with my mom.  We talked and enjoyed some quiet moments looking at the ducks.

29 Comments on Weekly Run Down: A fall and some bruises

  1. Nice week of runs! So sorry that you fell but that you were okay overall. Those sidewalks look pretty rough so I would run with my head down too!

Same for me this week with the lack of sleep – I woke up 3 times at 4am. Something must be in the water!

    • These are the same sidewalks I’ve run on for about 2 years. I’ve run in the dark and during the winter and have never tripped.

I blame the lack of sleep on stress. 🙁

  2. Friday night was my weird sleep night, too! I fell asleep on the couch around 7:40/8:00 and didn’t wake up until 1:30! I looked at my phone and thought it said 11:30, so imagine my surprise when I finally realized it was so much later. Those extra 6 hours were like a full night of “normal” sleep for me, so I don’t think I ever fell back to sleep completely after that LOL Thanks for joining us on the link-up!

  3. Looks like a variety of fun locations for your runs! Great workouts too, way to go!

Sleep makes all the difference…people can focus so much on diet and exercise, but they often forget how much solid sleep affects your health! Hope you sleep better soon!

    • Thanks. I like the variety of running in different locations. Before I would always run by my house and I guess eventually I got bored.

I am a firm believe of sleep. That is why I make sure to nap with my cat. Haha, she sleeps a lot. Lately I guess I’ve been having too much on my mind.

  4. So sorry to read about your fall. You still had a great week, running-wise, in spite of the fall. Hope you are better now! 🙂

  5. Yikes! So sorry about the fall. Thank heavens you didn’t break anything. My husband swears by the amino acid Glycine for sleep. Typically I’m a good sleeper but I’ve been having an hour or two of wakefulness in the middle of the night lately. Glycine took care of it plus I slept until 7:40 the other day. Typically I’m up by 5.
Great week of running for you!

    • Thanks Marcia. My fall could have been worse and I am glad it wasn’t. I used to be able to go to sleep at 9 and wake up at 6 but now have a hard time doing that.
Too much on my mind maybe? Sometimes I take melatonin at night and while it does make me sleepy, I still tend to wake up early. Thanks for the glycine suggestion, I will check it out.

  6. Sorry to hear about the fall 🙁 Though that’s good that there wasn’t blood and you weren’t feeling sore later in the week. I’m always paranoid after a fall and looking at the ground constantly too.

  7. I’m so sorry about your fall! I had a period where I was falling often – it was so frustrating! I really was trying hard to focus on my running form, picking up my feet, etc., but it’s the stupid paths sometimes and not looking down and then WHAM on the ground again. Ugh. I am glad you got some good training in and you have a great attitude about NOT QUITTING!! I’m going to think of you if this comes into my head – my marathon training starts this week!

    • Thank you! It was so hard not to quit. I kept telling myself that I had to keep running if I want to do my half marathons this year and finish my states goal next year. But let me tell you that in the past I have quit and I was OK with it. Well, not in the beginning but eventually I got over it.
Everyone has bad runs and it doesn’t make you less of a person or runner if you quit.

Excited for you to start marathon training!

  8. Ouch. Glad you’re ok.

    Nice week of runs.

I am such a lousy sleeper. I am used to be tired all the time.

  9. Yikes on your fall! I haven’t fallen in awhile because I avoid sidewalks. I took a pretty bad fall a few years ago and don’t want to repeat it! I did manage to smack myself in the chin while shaking up a bottle last week and I have a big bruise to prove it. DOH!! Glad you are feeling better from your fall. Keep upright! 🙂
