Hello April!  Like Jenn mentioned in her post, we are 1/4 through the year.  Wow!  These past few months were a blur, well, except for February with that awful weather.  🙂

I am still on Spring Break, but today is my last day.  However, I am also off on Monday and then Tuesday is a Remote Planning Institute Day (I can work from home).  This week also went by fast.  No complaints.  So, grab your favorite drink and let’s chat.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I want to go on vacation.  I just want to go somewhere and get away.  I have my good days and bad days and I am itching for some time alone.  Is that bad?  I know the pandemic has affected everyone but like everyone else I am just so tired of it.  I want to travel to NYC and to Washington, DC.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I want to buy anther Garmin watch (245) just because of the walking feature.  My 235 does not have it.  Do I really need a new watch?  No.  But I do want to have the feature when I do go out for a walk.  There’s been a few times when it’s been so windy and I’ve had no desire to deal with it while running, that I’d just go for a 20 minute walk.  You will then tell me that I don’t like to walk.  You are right.  However, lately, I don’t mind it.  I usually do a Peloton class or listen to a podcast.  You will be shocked because I don’t like podcasts either.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I find this whole virtual Boston Marathon thing a bit crazy and silly.  I get it that it’s been tough on the running industry but they are taking advantage of people wanting to supposedly race a Boston Marathon and get a unicorn medal.  It isn’t even on the actual course.  Plus, $125 is a lot of money for a virtual race.  So am I a hypocrite if I tell you that, since I will never qualify for it, if I were given an entry to it, I will take it?

If we were having coffee…
I’d ask you “What do you do about all of the ads on Instagram?”  This past week I spent some time going through quite a few of them and hiding them and either selecting “It’s irrelevant” or “I see it too often”.  I’d ask you if I just wasted my time by doing that.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I know you are tired of hearing about me wanting to buy a house.  While I am excited about it, I am also nervous.  I know the interest rates are low.  Actually, they’ve gone up a little bit.  House now are still so expensive.  More than they were last year.  I live on the south side of Chicago where it isn’t that expensive but seeing prices for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath for $250,000-$300,000 scares me.  I remember years ago when I started looking I did not want to spend more than $225K (I thought it was too much).  Now I have no choice.

  1. I’m glad to hear you’re walking more! That’s a habit that started after my knee surgery and I’m glad it stuck around. Buying a house is stressful! It’s a huge commitment, but worth it 🙂

    • If really isn’t that bad once you either listen to something you like or just focus on the walk itself and relax. I was thinking of either driving to the lakefront after work for a walk or look for different places around my school and go there instead.

  2. I love to walk (and my vivoactive tracks everything) — but even though I like podcasts, I just don’t have time to listen to them that much.

Good luck on the house hunting! Right now it’s a seller’s market.

I want to go somewhere too, badly. Except with cases on the rise, and knowing that even being vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t get COVID — I’m gonna wait. But crossing my fingers for better weather so I can at least get out & about more at home without freezing!

  3. You know I feel you on the Boston thing. The BAA offers plenty of other virtual races, if people just want to support the running industry. I think they’ve gone too far with a virtual marathon. For the first time in a long time there are no houses for sale in our neighborhood. With housing I think you just have to jump in. There’s never a perfect time.

  4. I don’t think you would be a hypocrite for taking a free entry to run Boston virtually! I would do the same, even though I’d never pay for it. I want to go on vacation too, but I’m not ready yet.

  5. I can totally relate to wanting a vacation. I would really like some time away, alone. Hoping I can make that happen sometime this summer. I’ll admit that i haven’t really read too much about the virtual Boston Marathon but $125 seems really expensive!

  6. Funny, I’ve been debating about getting a new watch too – I have the 235 and I’ve been having the worse time getting it to sync lately. I didn’t know there was a separate walking feature on the 245 – I usually just use “Other” if I want to track my walk distance.

I’m feeling the same way about wanting to take a vacation! I’m definitely not ready to get on an airplane but I’d be fine driving somewhere. A change of scenery would be so nice!

    • That is what the rep at Garmin told me. Other ones that were mentioned are the 35, 645, 745, 935, and 945. Yes, a drive would be lovely! Now you are giving me an idea.

  7. I have the 235. But I also have a Apple Watch which I wear daily – for the steps.

I can not imagine how cooped up you feel. Come to NYC.

    Virtual any marathon – crazy!!!

House are selling fast here. You have to way overbid to get one.

  8. I hope you are able to book a trip sometime soon. I think everyone is itching to get away once they are vaccinated. Good luck with the house hunting it is scary at times. I also like that my Garmin has a walk feature so I can keep it separate from my run mileage

  9. Yeah, the virtual Boston thing is complicated! First of all, who wants to run a virtual marathon? But it’s Boston! Well, not really… I say, in your fantasies, take that free entry!

  10. It’s hard to believe we’re 1/4 the way through the year already! I think $125 is way too steep for a virtual race. I don’t think it’d be hypocritical to want to do it if you were given an entry. Free things are nice! 😛

I really dislike the ads too. I hope going through them makes them appear less for you!

I’d love to buy a house too but it may be some more time for me (gotta get outta all that student debt first)!

  11. So…you still have a little bit of vacation left. Enjoy it before the final push to Memorial Day!

I hope you get to go on vacation soon, Zenaida. We just got out first vaccine on Saturday and I am already dreaming of traveling. Soon!!!

  12. I have a Garmin Forerunner 35! After my 235 died, I downgraded. I don’t need all the bells and whistles. There is a walking feature. This watch gives me everything I need.

I’ve actually bought a few things through the ads on IG, lol

  13. I want a vacation too. I want to go to the gym. I want to go shopping. I’m so so so tired of all of this. So I hear you.

And while I would not do a virtual Boston for that hefty pricetag. I don’t think I’d do it at all because it’s really “the one” that you need to earn (in my opinion). That said, if someone gave me an entry for free and my body was capable, um yes, I would do it.

I love my garmin vivofit 4s for all the activity features. plus it’s pink. I wanted a new one for the walking feature. AND… I walk a lot more since my knee injury. AND I listen to more podcasts. Who am I?? Yesterday I walked 10K just because I was listening to a podcast that goes along with a show I’m obsessing about lately. I never walk 10K on a weekday.

buying a house is a scary thing. but a great investment. and when you find the right one at the right time it will make sense.

and finally on the IG ads … I’m so sick of ads and reels. I spend (waste) a lot of time hiding and blocking… in the end I do feel it’s worth it.

    • You walked a 10K? Wow! I would go maybe 15-20 minutes. Well, whether I earn it or not, I still want to run the actual course and not here in Chicago. 🙂 Hugs to you! One day I will visit you and the cats!!!

  14. I think we ALL want to go on vacation. How about you come to DC and I go to Chicago? I started the year tracking my walks with Scooby on my Garmin, but then I forgot for a few days and haven’t bothered since. I know it’s 0.9 miles a day I’m not getting credit for, but oh, well.

Buying a house is crazy. My son gave up on this hour and bought 2 hours away — made possible by his ability to work from home. I know that’s not a permanent option for you!

    • I don’t want to move too far away (the suburbs is cheaper) because I don’t want a long commute to work. Plus almost all of my family lives close to where I live now so I would like to live in the area.

  15. House prices are insane down here. I kind of want to move (I want land and a hobby farm), but it’s just too hard to find a house to buy. I love hearing about other people’s journeys, though.

I want to go to DC so badly. Actually, anywhere. I would go ANYWHERE.

I love my 235 but I want a Fenix. Or an Apple watch. I don’t know.

  16. I’m also itching to go on vacation! We were thinking about Vermont but I also want to hit the beach!

Home buying is really crazy in Philly right now. Houses are getting snatched up at high prices thanks to buyers from NYC. I wonder how long this mayhem will last!

I just don’t get the Boston drama. Virtual runners are not taking anything away from people who have BQ’d and run in-person…lol.
