Spring is here and Summer is two months away.  I know I am ahead here but thinking about Summer gets me excited because Summer means the end of the school year.  Yesterday was just awful.  No matter what I did, nothing seemed to be going right.  I know everyone is tired but I really need this school year to be over.

Anyway, let’s talk about Summer.  It isn’t my favorite season for running, but I don’t hate it anyway.

🌞 End of the school year – It has been an awful year.  It has been my worst year of teaching.  Part of it is the number of students I have but also the expectations from administrators.  Tests, tests, and tests.  Oh, and let’s not forget teaching the curriculum and the priority standards.  Oh, and make sure we give grades each quarter.  It makes no sense.  It is really hard to accurately assess the students.  By the way, my last day is June 9th.  I know technically it isn’t Summer but it still counts.  Also, I will be teaching summer school but at least it will be with different students and curriculum.

🌞 Running in shorts and short sleeve shirt – I wrote the same thing in my post about SpringI love running in shorts.  I dislike running in tights with a long sleeve shirt AND a jacket.  The less the better.  It gets me in a better mood and more motivated to run.  Gotta keep going with my run streak!  Today is day #231.

🌞 Reading more books – I love to read!  I am excited to sit out in the balcony or on the sofa with a glass (or two) of wine.  Please send me your book recommendations.

🌞 Spending more time with mom – I feel so lucky that I still have my mom.  While sometimes it is so hard to take care of an elderly person, my sisters and I are doing the best we can.  Depending on how things are with the pandemic, we will either spend HOURS on the balcony listening to music and talking or hopefully visiting family.  I would love to take her on a short getaway.

🌞 Relax and maybe sleep in – Many days I want to do “nothing”.  Well, what I mean by that is sitting on the sofa while I read or watch TV (so many shows to watch).  I know in the Summer I have to run early in the morning to avoid the heat.  However, there are some days when I am so tired and just want to stay in bed and catch up on sleep.  If that happens then I will just run in the evening.

What are you looking forward to this summer?  Any summer plans?

24 Comments on Fit Five Friday: 5 things I am looking forward to this Summer

  1. I’m looking forward to the summer too! Its so nice to run in shorts and a tank top. Sorry this school year has been so awful for you. I give teachers SO much credit for making it through the last year.

    • Thanks, Lisa. I really hope it is better next year. I do feel bad for the students because they’re the ones missing out on so much. I know it is tough for me being the teacher, but it is worse for them.

  2. I haven’t really thought about summer but your ideas sound fantastic. Each of my daughters is taking one online summer school class and my older daughter will be working full time on her internship. Fingers crossed the kitchen renovation will happen in summer as well. That’s so great you enjoy your mom so much. I have to schedule cataract surgery for mine as well as an MRI for her hip.

  3. Ahh the life of a teacher. And you deserve it.

I am looking forward to running in a skirt and tank. Trails. Races. Boating and gardening.

    Hanging out my friends!!!

    • Where are you thinking of traveling? Will you be coming to Chicago? I also want to beat the heat but I know there are some days that I want to sleep in. 🙂

  4. My husband is a teacher, so he and the kids will be off for the summer- I’ll still be working, but just not having the kids in school makes my life so much easier. I’m looking forward to having more time in the mornings before work!
I agree- this was the worst school year ever. I’m sure the beginning of next year will be pretty challenging too, trying to get everyone caught up and used to “normal” school again (fingers crossed…)
I hope you get to do all of your things over the summer!

  5. I’m looking forward to more outdoor socializing with friends, some running races and (hopefully) some travel to see friends and family. Nothing solid planned yet but hoping to go to NYC, Los Angeles and Boulder.

  6. Summer….ahhhhh. Bring on the heat and sunshine. I’m eager to get back out on my bike… the indoor joke has been fine, but I want some fresh air & “real” hills LOL

  7. It definitely feels so much freer to run in a skirt & and tank (although I haven’t done a tank yet). OTOH, I’ve struggled with the warmer runs lately!

Yes, care taking is very challenging. And tiring.

I’m really sorry that this year has been so tough. I hope next year is much better!

  8. no plans here but actually READING would be amazing. Maybe that’s what I’ll do this summer !

  9. I have heard so many teachers say this was their worst year ever. I hope next year is better for you. I should be. So glad you are going to get to spend more time with your mom! 🙂

    • Thinking about it makes me cry. I ams sure many teachers are feeling the same way. I do hope next year is better but thinking about it makes me nervous. I guess the best thing to do it to NOT think about it. 🙂

  10. I love this list. I slept in today and it was magical. I never do it, so the rare occasion is just perfect.

I can’t wait for this school year to be over for you. You (and all the teachers) deserve a break.
