This year Global Running Day is Wednesday, June 2nd.  What is Global Running Day?  “Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving.  This day plays an important role, reminding us of the positives that running can offer and the power of unification.  It’s mission seems more important than ever right now, as people everywhere attempt to stay active and healthy.  During these challenging times, many people are turning to running as a solution to help release anxiety, gain perspective, cope with cabin fever, and keep up wellbeing.

Our physical Global Running Day events may be paused, but it’s important that we all keep active in a safe and responsible way.  This year, Global Running Day 2021 will be digitally uniting people across the world in a global effort to encourage physical wellness and strengthen community.” (Source: https://globalrunningday.org/)

On Wednesday I am planning to do a speed workout for a total of about 6 miles.  I am excited but also nervous about it.

What can you do on this day?

👟 Participate in a virtual event.  There are many of them taking place so that you can get involved either by running or walking.  Below are the events listed on the Global Running Day website.  If any of these aren’t your thing, you can submit an event and others can sign up.

👟Sign up for a race.  Run Rock and Roll Marathon Series is having a 24 hour sale.  There will be races in various U.S. cities as well as in other countries.  You can pick from a 1 mile, 5k, half marathon, or marathon.

👟 Do your own thing.  Just do what I am doing and run.  Or go for a walk.  It may be a day of running but so what if you walk?  The most important thing is that you move and enjoy some fresh air.

How will you celebrate Global Running Day?

  1. I love that there’s a Global Running Day!
Like you, I have a speed workout. It is much shorter than yours, only 3 x 800m on the track. But because it’s such a beautiful day, I will add another 6 easy miles.
    Enjoy your workout!

  2. Best of luck with that speed workout! I also find that speed workouts have me quite nervous beforehand, but I usually end up having so much fun!

I’m marking Global Running Day by starting the #WorldRiverRun which goes from 2nd – 5th June (World Environment Day). It’s organised by Mina Guli at http://www.minaguli.com – sign up is free, you choose the distance you’d like to cover over 4 days and the river you’d like to dedicate your run to! So if you (or anyone reading this) would like to run for a river, just go to the website!

  3. As I commented on Kim’s post, not quite sure what. Depends how I feel. I might do a recovery run. I might hike. I might do both — or neither (also depends on Mr. Judy’s plans).

Obviously I’m a big fan of doing my own thing, LOL!

  4. I’m glad the GRD always falls on a Wednesday, because that’s my (usual) #5at5 day 😉 I’d find a reason to run regardless, though, because is such an important day to celebrate and commemorate.

  5. A virtual race is tempting. I may. But most likely I will run on my own or with a friend. I also may walk or hike if I can. All weather depending.

  6. It’s so nice to see all the virtual runs set up for tomorrow. I think that really gives runners incentive to participate since there are so many options.

I’m surprised that RnR is still doing their annual GRD sale. I’ve heard so many complaints about the race series over the past 1-2 years!

  7. I actually have a cycling workout planned for tomorrow (bad planning on my part LOL), but I ran today and I will on Thursday and I will just celebrate the way we can move our bodies!!

  8. Well, I’m starting to feel really left out here! Why do I have to be injured on Global Running Day??? I did a pool run this morning, and I suppose that will have to count.

  9. I celebrated it by running for the 215 indigenous children who were found on a mass grave in Canada. Native Women Running organized the event and it happened that it was around Global Running Day.

  10. I was so happy to get to run on Global Running Day – it was a pretty challenging (for me) speed workout! I didn’t do a virtual race this time and I didn’t even see an email from Rock ‘n Roll about their sale, normally I would pounce on that! I hope you enjoyed!

Thank you for your comment!
