Another great week of running!  The weather sure made it tough but I got it done.  The best thing that happened this week was the end of the school year.  I was so done with the school year that I didn’t even attend the end of school year parade.  I just wanted to go home.

schools out

It’s been sunny and warm in the morning and I have to get out earlier.  I get up around 4 to use the bathroom and feed my cats.  I go back to sleep and wake up at 6am.  By the time I get dressed, drink my coffee, and use the bathroom, it is almost 7am.  That is the the time I need to be done with my run.

Saturday’s run went much better than the week before.  This time I wore a hat and carried two small water bottles.  My Oiselle pocket jogger shorts are perfect to store/hold the bottles!

Today’s workout felt hard.  I ran 4 miles and then 4-45 second surges with one minute recovery, and then a cool down till I reached 5 miles.  The 4 miles were slower than usual.  I did manage negative splits on my intervals which surprised me.  I did the same workout on Monday and even though I ran 5.02 miles, I finished 6 minutes faster.

I start Summer School tomorrow and I am already frustrated with it.  As of now I have 13 students.  Communication has not been very good between Administration and staff.  I had a meeting with the Principal on Wednesday and another one with the English Learners Department on Thursday.  I left those two meetings frustrated and not wanting to work anymore this Summer.  We did not get time to plan/set up classroom but yet we’re expected to be ready tomorrow morning.  I am planning to spend a few hours this evening planning for this week.  And yes I have asked about being compensated.

In non-running nor school related news, a mama pigeon has been living in the balcony.  She has been there for two weeks.  We know there are 2 eggs.  One more week and the eggs will hatch.

Today marks 6 years that I brought Lola home.  She was so little!  She follows me everywhere.  I know she misses me when I leave the house.

  1. Yay for the school year being over! Sorry summer school has been frustrating already. Hopefully it gets better and at least its not the whole summer.

  2. Congrats on making it through the school year! I know it was very tough for you at times but you did a great job. I hope that Summer school will be a better experience than the regular school year.

Loved seeing those photos of Lola – she’s such a cutie!

  3. Oooh! Happy Adoption Day to Lola! She’s a cutie.
I’m glad you’re done with school, but sorry summer school is starting out rough. What are the hours? I hope it’s a shorter school day so you can enjoy some summer relaxing.
    Great job on the running!

  4. I love the Lola walk down memory lane! They are just so stinking cute when they’re little. Bandit mostly follows me around. My Lola sometimes would, and sometimes she wanted to be off by herself. I miss her so much. Even if life is easier with one dog.

Good job this week, Zenaida! I’m up early, but I often struggle to get out when I mentally think I should, too. And I don’t even feed Bandit before I run! He really doesn’t seem to mind waiting til later, even though he makes it clear he could eat, too.

  5. Lola is the sweetest! What a cutie.

Those pocket joggers are seriously the best. Love that color too, I don’t have that- are they purple? I have green and black. I can fit so much in those side pockets!

  6. Oh, I have a special appreciation for teachers. Especially after I started following an account on IG where the teacher talks about “fiction” 😉 situations in the classroom. But reading the comments from other teacher– Oh my Lord… the stuff you all put up with! So thank you for teaching our kids and dealing with the craziness!

    • Thank you. It was a rough year (I had 28 students) and about 5-6 students participated and did most of the work. They’re the ones that kept me going and they’re the ones I showed up to work. 🙂

  7. Wow, I’m surprised there’s no break in between the regular school year and the start of summer school. That would be rough…for the teachers and the students as well. I’m glad to hear you had a great week of running, though!

    • I would have liked a few more days to prepare for school. A parent didn’t send her daughter for two days because she thought the first day of school was the following week. 🙂

  8. Great week of running! I hope summer school gets sorted out and you have a good experience. Are the kids in-person?

  9. I thought you would get a break between the regular year and summe school.

Good luck. Hope it goes well.

At least you get out there to run.

So far. Never for me. I get up. and then sit and have coffee, oatmeal and read my email.

Of course, I regret it later when it is hot out.

  10. ah look at baby lola!! happy 6 years together!

good running for you this week! glad to hear school’s finally done. hopefully summer school will go a bit better?

  11. Hooray for school being out. Sorry summer school is off to a frustrating start though. Just today I registered Thing 2 for her sophomore year of high school. It’s been amazing weather so far this week. Sure hope it’d stick around. Cheers to 6 years!
