I am so happy that it’s Friday!  I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I told my coach about my plan to run a 50k next year.  Looks like it is official.  🙂 I am nervous.  Training during the Winter worries me.  I know I did a one year running streak and while sometimes it felt hard, it was doable.  I am crossing my fingers that it is a mild Winter and that running outside isn’t an issue.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I am looking into tickets to go to NY to spectate the NYC Marathon.  My nephew lives there and he said I could stay with him.  He suggested flying into LaGuardia but Southwest does not fly there.  I do have a credit for American Airlines and there are tickets available but getting to the airport is about a 30-40 minute drive.  I know, first world problems.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I am 68% into my goal of running 1,000 miles this year.  I still need 317.45 miles to make my goal and there are 3 months left this year.  Now I wish I shouldn’t have taken so many days off in September.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that my nephew is a Marine!  My sister is going next week to California to see him.  My little baby is a Marine!  How exciting is that?!  Thanks to Facebook memories I have pictures from when he was a little kid and happy to tag along with me to the store, etc.  Now he is a grown up and a Marine!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that things are a bit better at school.  I have my routine set up and know what to do with the two different curriculums that I have and with students whose last time they were in school was in kindergarten.  However, not sure what happened yesterday but I had 3 kids crying/upset right before our afternoon recess.  They would not tell me the reason (I did find out for two of them after mom and a social worker spoke to them).  Well, I had to talk to them before going home to let them know that no matter what happens that I was happy to have them in my room and that I loved them very much and that each day is a new day/start for all of us.  Well, saying all of that made me cry too.  That was the first time I cried this school year.  It was just another reminder of how difficult last year was for all of us.  Let’s hope today is better.  They told me they want to color so I will let them color.

  1. Oh, gosh, it sounds like your students are going through all the feelings! It’s great that you are so kind to them.

Wow on the 50K. I am going to gingerly ramp up to see if I can possibly do my10M in November.

    • It was an interesting day for us. We took it easy on Friday and it went much better. It’s been rough for all of us and I am trying my best to make it educational but also fun for them.

  2. Wow a 50K that is exciting! Looking forward to watching your training. You will have a blast in NYC!

  3. Aww, I’m sorry that the kids were crying. That’s tough!

Congrats to your nephew! Hope you can make NYC happen.

Good luck with your mileage goal & the 50k. When is the 50k?

  4. I am also thinking about a 50k for next year, but I haven’t made my final decision yet.

I drove to Midway for my trip to see Holly! You can do it… although OHare is much less friendly when it comes to parking and such.

    • Well, I was planning to take the train (Orange and Blue) but it will be a long ride. Hmm, maybe I can just drive to the airport and leave my car there. No point in dealing with the train here.

  5. Aw, poor little kids! That’s so cute that they wanted to color today… I love that age.
Congratulations to your nephew! That’s impressive. You and your sister must be super proud.
I love the 50k goal. Looking forward to hearing all about the training!

  6. Best of luck on the 50k and your mileage goal for the year!

Poor kids — it’s been such a difficult year-and-a-half. I hope everything works out for them! <3

  7. You must be so proud of your nephew! Thank you to him for wanting to serve our country!
I do hope this school year turns around for all of us!
How exciting to have made the commitment to do a 50K!

  8. My goal is 1000 miles too. Hope I make it.

Spectating at NYCM should be fun.

And good luck with the 50k. When is it?

  9. Huge congratulations to your nephew! We are so grateful for his service.

50K is an incredible goal. I don’t know if it’s one I would want to take on, but I think it’s great.

I am so glad school is going well. I feel like we are still a huge mess in a lot of ways, and the teachers are soooo burned out.

  10. Does Southwest still fly to Newark? You can take the train from there and it’s not too expensive and is pretty easy. Let me know if you come to cheer! I’m doing the Runstreet shakeout with a bunch of friends on Saturday. I’d love for you to join us!
