Wow, it is already March and being excited is an understatement.  March means Spring, warmer weather, and Spring Break.  I am so happy that it’s Friday and that I am off on Monday for Casimir Pulaski Day!  I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that as much as I like my car, I do miss my old one.  I miss it mainly because of the cassette and CD player.  Yep, my old car was from 2006.  I listen to the radio on my way to work and sometimes I get bored and tired of the radio broadcasters and the commercials.  I have 3 stations that I like and end up switching amongst the 3 of them.  I also listen to Pandora and Amazon Music but now want to listen to my CDs and cassettes.  Should I just get rid of them?  For now they’re in a shoe box in my car.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that our District is now mask optional.  While it is refreshing and liberating not to wear a mask all of the time, I am still being careful.  I do take it off while teaching since I am not too close to my students and put it back on when they are close to me.  I find it easier to teach and talk.  I also think my students like to see my facial expressions (mostly when I smile at them).

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I’ve heard so much about Inside Tracker that I finally purchased one of their plans.  I got a discount code from a former coach but when I went online to purchase it, the company had a special going on that day.  Every plan was 28% off.  You bet I took advantage of that discount and saved almost $50.  Yesterday I made an appointment for Monday for the lab work.  Looking forward to seeing my results.  Has anyone else used Inside Tracker before?

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that while it feels good to run again, it was also hard.  I went one month without running.  It is weird how last year I was running everyday no matter the weather conditions.  There was snow, ice, and freezing weather and I was out there.  I thought about starting another running streak but already missed yesterday.  I slept in for a little bit and then I was too cold to run after work.  I didn’t realize how tired I was and ended up taking a nap after dinner.  I have a race coming up in two weeks.  Part of me wishes I hadn’t signed up but another part is also happy because I get to run a race again.  It’s been two years since my last one.  Let’s hope it isn’t too cold that day.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that my one challenging student has had 2 good days and 2 bad days this week.  On the bad days the parents had to come in to talk to him and the assistant principal.  I was a nervous wreck on those two days.  I want to only think about and remember the good days.  I also had some concerns with another student and got a chance to talk to mom yesterday.  I also talked to the student in front of mom.  I reminded him that I care about him and that I want to help him.  I also told him that he needs to talk to me and not shut me out.  He is a sweet and amazing kid.  I know that not every child can open up and talk about their feelings to an adult, but I am trying.  I know these past two years has been hard on people, but I think that it has been TWICE as hard on children.  Teaching is rewarding.  It is the non teaching aspects that takes the joy out of it.

  1. One reason I always run 4x a week is because it’s hard to go back if you stop. Hey it’s hard even if you don’t.

I have an older car and it still has a CD player. I admit I haven’t thrown away my music cds yet even though I don’t listen to them.

I still a mask indoors. But I haven’t gone back to work yet.

    • That is true. I’ve had to stop running a few times when I was injured or feeling burned out. This time it was mostly because of the weather. Hopefully soon I will be out there running longer distances. I will have to if i want to run a 50k this year.

  2. I don’t blame you for not wanting to run on some days when the weather is tough. It’s funny how we slip into a pattern though. I’m glad things are getting better with the challenging student. I agree the pandemic has been especially difficult for kids.

  3. Maybe a race is just what you need to get your running mojo back! I can’t believe you still have cassette tapes!

  4. The mask/no mask thing is hard. I’m still wearing mine at the gym and in stores even if most other people are not. I’m glad you can see your student’s faces and that they can see yours!

I did Inside Tracker when it was new and bought one on sale last year but haven’t done it yet. I’m going to try to do it this month! Thanks for the reminder.

    • Actually all of my kids are still wearing a mask. I only see their face when they eat. There aren’t that many locations/times to go to for the bloodwork. I have to go to Oak Lawn!

  5. I do agree that kids have had a tough, tough time during the Pandemic. He’s so lucky to have you!

I have no idea what Inside Tracker is!

Good luck with your race. I hope you enjoy it, it’s got to be hard after a break from running!

  6. Ha ha… my old car had a cassette player and I do miss them sometimes! I still have them, although I should probably throw them out. I can’t imagine I’ll ever use them again, but I’ve had them since high school so it’s hard to just get rid of them.
I would imagine teaching is 100% easier without a mask. Sounds like you’re doing great with your challenging student- you might end up making a big difference in their life. Hang in there.
Good luck with your upcoming race! Great that you’re running again, even though I know it’s hard to get back into it at first.

  7. That’s encouraging the student has had some good days, as well! I bet losing the mask has helped a lot, for all of your students, so they can definitely see your smile and facial expressions. And, I’m sure they can hear you much better as well. Do you find they’re more attentive when you’re not wearing your mask?

  8. You are so funny about wanting your car back so you can listen to your cassettes! I use Spotify and play all my favorites through my car radio. It’s great! i also use it to make playlists for running.

I am definitely feeling what you are feeling in my job too. The two years of the pandemic sure have taken a toll on kids, haven’t they?

  9. I’m not ready for the mask mandates to be over, but I’m sure it’s a huge step for you and your students! I hope you all stay healthy and have a great spring.

Good luck on your return to running. Hopefully warmer weather will help — before it gets too hot!

  10. I have a CD collection that I still listen to so I was pretty upset about hearing that newer cars don’t have a place to put CDs anymore. What am I supposed to do with my entire collection!? :'(

I’m definitely still wearing my mask (working in medical field + also just really hard to trust people these days) — if they ever lift this completely, I’m going to have to relearn how to have a poker face though, haha.

  11. I haven’t even driven our new car yet. I should probably figure that out.

I’m sorry that things are challenging with some of your kiddos. That’s so hard, especially when you’re trying to help.
