Wow, it is already April!  We are still dealing with Winter weather conditions since Mother Nature cannot make up her mind.  It is sunny so at least that makes it a bit better.  I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that today is my last day of Spring Break.  It sure went by fast!  I taught a few of my students for two hours each morning.  Total there were 5 students.  It was very similar to what I did in the Winter.  We read a few books to discuss point of view and worked on a couple of math word problems.  They’re both difficult to teach and for students to comprehend.  Even more when they do not know how to or want to read.

If we were having coffee…
I’d ask you if you ever donated plasma.  There is a facility two miles from where I live.  On Monday I went to inquire about it and then went on Wednesday to donate.  I was a new donor so the whole process took about 3 hours – the donation itself is about 40 minutes.  It didn’t hurt and I got a debit card with $100 in it.  It came in handy because the next day I had to replace the microwave oven.  It was either that or risk an explosion or fire caused by it.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that it’s been 3 years since my mother had her stroke.  It’s been an eye opening experience.  Many good things have come out of it too!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that you can call me crazy for wanting to run the Marine Corps Marathon 50K.  Maybe it is a good thing I didn’t get in the NYC Marathon.  I haven’t signed up yet – not sure what is holding me back.  I’ve already talked to my coach about it and we will be working together again to train for it.  50K?!?  Yikes!!!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I turn 50 this year.  My birthday falls on a Sunday.  The next week is Thanksgiving and I only have to work Monday and Tuesday.  I am unsure of what to do.  Go somewhere warm?  Have a party with a few friends and family?  I am not really one to “celebrate” my birthday.  I wake up each morning, go for a run, and continue on with my day.  Nothing exciting but just grateful for being able to celebrate another birthday.

  1. A 50k is a great way to celebrate turning 50.

Maybe 2023 we will get into the marathon.

No I’ve never donated plasma. Didn’t even know you could.

  2. Wow, the MCM 50K! That sounds exciting! I’d love to return someday and do the 26.2 again…ideally under much drier conditions. I have never given blood or plasma…I know, my bad. The needles really creep me out (which is a wimpy excuse, but it’s my reality).

  3. I really would’ve liked to go somewhere nice (and warm) for my birthday! But it was a time when COVID was high, of course. I am definitely jonsesng for some exotic vacation — not gonna happen this year, most likely.

Good luck trying to decide what race and/or distance you want to do!

  4. wow a 50K! A fun goal for your 50th birthday. I have not donated plasma and I had no idea people were paid for it. I do know there is a shortage now so I guess that is a great way to encourage people. Enjoy your last few days of spring break

  5. My boys have donated plasma, but i never have. It’s a good way to get $$, right?

For my 50th, my sister and I took a trip. It turned out so well that we made it an annual event! This year will be #10 and I turn 60. We’re going to Santa Barbara in the fall. I can’t wait!

  6. I agree with Darlene- running a 50k is the perfect way to celebrate your 50th year! But you do also have the perfect opportunity to make it into a fun trip- something to think about.
Good for you for donating plasma- i’m sure it’s needed. And then you got to replace your microwave- it was obviously good karma!

  7. So you worked over spring break? That’s no fun — or maybe it was? Interesting birthday dilemma. I like my day to be a little bit special, but I don’t need a big to-do. A weekend getaway would be fun though.

    • I did work but I will get paid for it. If I had more time then a trip to Paris would be lovely. I’ve been wanting to go to NY so that is another option.

  8. A 50K for your 50th BDay sounds pretty good! And I’ve heard nothing but good things about the whole MCM experience. I agree with Coco – I like to make my birthday a little special without a big to do. A weekend getaway might be the way to go.

  9. I’ve yet to donate plasma but have definitely considered it! I tried donating blood a couple times — got rejected once and felt reallyyyy fatigued/ill the second time so it’s been a while since I have again.

I don’t really do much to celebrate my birthday but would love to just spend some quality time with friends again — we’ve all been so swamped lately!
