Hello July!  We are half way done with the year 2022.  And what a year it has been.  I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!

If we were having coffee…
I’d ask you to ask me how many gifts I received from my students are the end of the school year.  Now, I don’t do this job for the gifts but it is nice to get them.  Go ahead, ask me.  0.  NOLLA. ZERO. NULA.  NUL.  I have been teaching for 13 years and every year (except 2020 and we know why) I have received gifts from students.  I went out for drinks with my coworker that day and even she was shocked.  Her husband and other friend that joined us were also shocked.  I did receive a few thank you on Remind from parents, but still.  Update: Receiving gifts is not an expectation.  I was just surprised that is all.  I am not trying to sound ungrateful.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that Summer School went better than expected.  I started off with 22 students on my roster and ended up with 14.  We took one field trip to the Adler Planetarium.  They made me smile but no one made me cry.  Teaching in all English isn’t that bad.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that my yesterday my mom and I went to Walgreens to get our 2nd booster shot.  Crossing my fingers we don’t have any side effects from it.  Our first one was in October so it was time for this one.

If we were having coffee…
I’d ask you if you rate a Peloton class based on the instructor’s playlist.  I know I can check out the playlist before deciding to take the class, but sometimes I forget and then wonder how the heck they picked that song or songs.  On Sunday I took a 90s Run and I only recognized the first two.  I was so annoyed towards the end and was glad it was only 20 minutes.  On Tuesday I took an 80s Run class.  I’ve listened to plenty of 80s songs but only recognized one.  🤔

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I am noticing more gray hair.  They’re mostly baby hairs on the top right.  I know I am at that point when I will be seeing them more often.  I am just not ready for them.

  1. Are gifts an expectation when you’re a teacher? I’m trying to remember what we did when my boys were in school. I’m sure the parents are grateful for all you do. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

  2. Glad summer school went well. Enjoy the rest of the summer.

I don’t recognize those songs either. I hate when that happens.

I’ve been coloring my hair since I was 35. And I don’t plan to stop. Lol.

  3. I hope you don’t let the lack of gifts make you think you are not appreciated. Honestly, I relied on class parents to organize a gift. I figure teachers have enough chotchkes although I guess these days you can do a gift card.

I try to check out playlists before I take a class because I don’t want to end up in an EDM class by mistake. I recognize a few more songs than you did, but not all of them.

  4. It has been a few years but we always gave small gifts to teachers and holiday time and at the end of the year. I did not think people did that anymore. Hope you have some downtime now since summer school is over. I check the songs on the bike classes but not the strength classes.I rarely rate a class though hope you enjoy more Peloton over the summer!

    • Oh yeah, parents/students still bring gifts for teachers. I have a few days off then will teach a class to kindergartens. I have never taught that grade so it should be interesting! I am hoping I can do a few bike classes a week. I should also do yoga and stretch as well.

  5. Really, no gifts? That’s so odd! Did you get gifts at Christmas? When my kids were in elementary school we always gave the teachers Christmas gifts and then a gift towards the end for Teacher Appreciation Week. You must have had an extra-stingy class this year.
Glad summer school went well! I hope you have some time off now.

  6. Seriously LOL at the gray hairs. Well, you know what I look like!

I don’t recognize those songs either. When I have time, I always check out the playlist. But sometimes I just need to get it done — those are usually really short classes — and I figure you never know, you might like something new!

That is so sad that you didn’t get any thank you gifts — and not even any thank yous except the one! It’s just not right.

  7. That’s too bad your students weren’t more appreciative (or their parents). I’m glad summer school went well 🙂 I seldom remember I have the option to preview the playlists on Peloton…oops!

  8. My gray hairs have nowhere to hide, lol! I fully embrace it – it helps since I look so much younger than my actual age!

I definitely choose Peloton workouts based on the playlist. I recognize a few more on the playlist than you do, but a few of them I definitely don’t! I just try to go with it!

  9. I’m so sorry you didn’t get any gifts this year :(. I know you don’t expect it, but just wow. what a bummer. I am glad that summer school worked out!

I don’t do peloton but I do know that when I use Les Mills on Demand, I won’t redo a release where I didn’t like the music. Luckily I like most of it! But last week was new release week in the gym so the music is totally unknown. So it’s a matter of getting used to it. In the gym you’ve got no choice ha!

Don’t worry about the greys. You are still going to be gorgeous 🙂

  10. That’s really disappointing on the playlists! I grew up in the 90’s so I’d absolutely expect to recognize some of those but…yep, definitely not.

I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t get any gifts! I don’t think you sound ungrateful — it’s not an expectation but it’s still something nice and appreciated when it does happen. I’m glad summer school went well though.

  11. I’m glad summer school went better than you expected!

I usually check out the Peloton playlists in advance – I need the music to contribute to the workout not be an annoying distraction.

My grays are coming in fast and furious LOL. I’m doing my best to just embrace it!

  12. I always did gifts in elementary, but I stopped in middle school. The relationship with the middle school teachers was very different, both for A and for me, and he didn’t have the same kind of connection. That being said, I do spend a lot of time with the PTSO and we work hard to show the teachers they are appreciated.
