Welcome to the February edition of the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  It’s also time for another edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by My First 5K and MoreRunning With AttitudeRun Laugh Eat PieRuns with Pugs, and me!  Let’s get started, shall we?

I am glad January is over.  It did go by quickly.  While it was a mild temperature-wise month for us, we are now closer to March and to some races.

There is more to tell.  So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that Amazon sent me an Echo Dot by mistake.  When I contacted them about it, they asked if maybe someone had gifted it to me and to see if there was a label inside.  No one did and there wasn’t a note.  Then they asked if I wanted to send it back.  I already have one, but this one is nicer.  They said I could keep it and I did.  The one I have now I will give to my niece.  Would you have sent it back?

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I finished watching Golden Girls.  That final episode!  Wow!  I cried.  It is such a good show.  My favorite girl was Dorothy and I am a little like her.  I also adored Sophia.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I need to do a better job of reading blog posts in order.  Ahem, or not fall too behind.  At the beginning of January, I was reading posts from the Friday linkup.  I thought I was finished (not sure how or why) but then I started reading the posts from Sunday’s linkup.  I had a feeling I was “off” but kept reading.  Something made me go back to my posts and that is when I realized I didn’t finish reading all of the posts from Friday.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that a few years ago I did something to my blog to make money through ads.  I completely forgot about it until last month when I checked the dashboard.  I made $100!  Haha, I know it isn’t much but it is $100 I didn’t have before.  That will come in handy to help buy my ticket to Washington, DC for the Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Race.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I don’t understand the big deal with the two spaces after a period.  I do it all of the time. As a senior in high school, I took a typing class on the recommendation of my counselor.  One of the best classes I took and I did really well in it.  What about you – two spaces or one?

Topic for next week’s Fit Fit Friday – 5 things to love about running.  Feel free to write about this topic or any fitness topic you’d like.  We hope you’ll link up with us!

  1. Sounds like you got lucky this month with the Amazon echo and money from your blog! It’s time to play the lottery!

I had never heard of that two spaces after a period until I went to college and was a journalism major. It’s a weird rule and I never use it, lol

  2. I have one echo dot upstairs and one downstairs. This is your lucky month.

I don’t make money off my blog. Sigh.

And yes I forget and add 2 Spaces after a period.

Reading blogs is time consuming. I don’t follow as many as i used to.

  3. I didn’t realize that people are annoyed by two spaces after a period? That’s the way it’s supposed to be! I took a HS typing class too. I worked as a secretary at IBM one Summer so it came in handy (still does). Although I hunt & peck on my phone, LOL!

Congrats are earning $100! I’d probably keep the new echo dot too, although we use the video one more – just because it’s in our living room. When I taught Yoga in the house I did use the dot for music, though.

  4. It is fun to get those little bonuses from IG or the blog out of nowhere. We have received some things by mistake from Amazon and they always say to keep it bc it costs them more to ship it back I guess. Enjoy!

  5. Well you were at least honest with Amazon and told them. They were the one that said keep it, so I probably would have too….haha. I was learned to do the two spaces too after a sentence but I think on some devices or platforms you use it looks goofy, like you just have an extra space and it looks more like a typo.

  6. I used to be a die-hard two-spacer but was convinced to give it up for my work blog, and then dropped it everywhere. Something about the fonts we use not needing the extra space.

I would have kept the un-ordered item if they offered — I have learned that most returns end up in warehouses or landfills anyway.

  7. Well, I always do two spaces after a period because that’s what I was taught in my high school typing class, and now I can’t change it. But nowadays they say one space, so if you’re doing two spaces, it dates you. Whatever! I’m a proud Gen X.
About the Echo Dot… you were honest and contacted them to begin with, but it was their mistake and they obviously didn’t care if you sent it back or not. So I would keep it too.

  8. I well rememeber the two spaces, back in my “typing day” (we had to take typing in junior high, and that “rule was a constant for anything typed, like research papers). I think it evolved to just “one” space when word processing, via computers, really took off. I still on occasion do the double space, out of habit, LOL.

  9. January totally flew by. Like warp speed. what is the deal with that?? I would have kept the Echo Dot especially after already speaking to Amazon about it! Nice that you earned $100 ! that will come in handy! and why are people annoyed about two spaces? I mean isn’t hurting someone??? geez. of all the things in the world to get upset about. Never mind war, famine and people not having healthcare, TWO SPACES OH EM GEE!!!

  10. Aww, that’s nice of them to just let you keep it!

I’m super behind on reading pretty much…all blogs, and I really need to get back on track, haha. :[

    Congrats on the $100!

  11. Yay for earning a surprise $100 on your blog! I used to regularly make a small amount of money from Amazon, but that’s all but dried up since they changed their earning threshold a couple of years ago.

When I first started my blog I always put two spaces after periods until I realized that sometimes that meant there would be an awkward space at the beginning of a line so I quit and now don’t have to worry about that.

  12. We’d send it back because my husband is freaked out by devices that listen to us!

I learned how to type on a typewriter and the two spaces was because the kerning was problematic on old skool fonts. In modern typeface, the two spaces aren’t necessary. I do two spaces automatically after I period because it’s muscle memory at this point!

  13. I love 2 spaces after a period, but I have decided to not judge people who don’t. We do full justification of paragraphs at my work, and sometimes that smooshes words together and without that extra space, it can be hard to tell when you’re on a new sentence…
