Wow, how is it already August?  This Summer Break sure is going by fast.  Just a few more weeks and it is back to work.  My first day is the 18th and then the students start on the 22nd.  I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that school starting in a few weeks makes me nervous and excited.  What’s not to like about a new school year, new school, new coworkers, and a new boss?  It is making it through those first few weeks/months that worry me.  The unpacking will take me a long time too.  But I have done it before and will get it done, right?  I know I have my blogger friends to listen to me complain and to give me advice.  Remember how two years ago when I was so tired one day that I ate mashed potatoes and wine for dinner?

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that next week my coworker and I will be going to Starbucks Reserve Roastery Chicago.  I’ve been there once with my mom but this time time it will be a different experience.  My coworker is a Starbucks Rewards Member (she has almost 10,000 points!) and we will actually have a tour guide and other surprises.  The little things that make me excited!

If we were having coffee…
I’d ask you which shampoo you use.  I have straight hair but still the humidity is not my friend.  Actually, humidity has no friends at all.  I’ve tried Prose, Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Monat, etc.  I used to wash my hair everyday but now do it 3 times a week.  I rinse it when I do not wash it.  The thought of sweaty hair grosses me out.  Did you know that I used to have curly hair when I was a kid?  The left photo is from my passport and the one on the right is from 1st grade.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that my dentist left me.  He retired sometime in March.  I’ve been going to him since about 1997/1998.  I remember I found him through 1-800-DENTIST.  One of the reasons I went with him is because of his evening hours.  This was before I was a teacher and would get off work really late so I needed someone that would accommodate me.  He was a great dentist and while I am happy for him, I will miss him.  He left his clients to another dentist that was in the same building (which I never noticed, can you believe it?) and have an appointment on Tuesday.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I bought my first Lululemon item!  Nope, not clothes but instead I bought a bag – Clean Lines Belt Bag.  Originally I wanted the Everywhere Belt Bag but it’s been sold out for a long time.  I love it so much that I want to get another bag.  I do not need it but still want it.

  1. Those belt bags are all the rage these days, and I see them with people (mostly women) of all ages. I even saw several cyclists sporting them on my RAGBRAI ride last weekend. I guess they’re a modern day fanny pack (?).

  2. Enjoy your Roastery visit. I went there in NYC with Cari.

Summer goes by so quickly esp when you are a teacher. Remember we are here to listen. Some of us were teachers at one time. We get it.

Lululemon is so expensive. Not sure I own anything.

My dentist retired too but his son took over and I like him

My hair is curly and frizzy and very dry… I only wash it once or twice a week.

  3. We are starting in a new school too (on the student and board side of things). It’s intimidating and scary, but also so exciting. I hope you have the best year!

  4. I got one of those lulu bags for my travels this summer and I became obsessed with it too. It was perfect and I love it too. It is great for city life as well. My hair is so humid in the summertime. I wash it everyday bc I get so sweaty but the frizz is real

  5. I’ve always had curly hair, but my brother’s hair didn’t really get curly until puberty. I usually only wash it on the days I run. Even then sometimes if I’m going to run the next day I just shower without washing it.

I never rinse it though! It takes forever to dry.

Good luck in your new school! It’s always hard to settle in somewhere new but before you know it you’ll feel at home.

  6. My son’s girlfriend gifted me a Lululemon bag for Mother’s Day and I just love it! I use it all the time. You should buy it! i’ve had such good luck with WOW haircare products–they keep my hair smooth even in the humidity. I use the Dream Coat and the anti-frizz cream. Made it through the Alabama humidity too.

  7. Good luck with the new school year! Yes, you have us to complain and vent to if needed. Hopefully it will be a fun adventure.
I use Aveda shampoo. It’s kind of expensive, but I only wash my hair twice a week.
i love that Lululemon bag! I’m totally nerdy and have been using a fanny pack I got at Target. I’m hoping they’re coming back into style.

  8. You’re going to do great at your new school, I just know it!

I would love to go to the roastery! I must look into that when we are visiting! I wonder if they would give me a tour for being a former Coffee Ambassador for the EMEA region 😉

Those photos of you are adorable! As for shampoo – I use “Hairborist” natural hair care – it’s expensive but I wash my hair only once a week (I had to “train” it to have it be ok once a week) so a bottle of shampoo lasts me a couple of months, plus I can refill my bottle for less and I’m not creating any plastic waste. I’m the proud owner of a 2019 bottle of shampoo that gets refills only. The conditioner I use every time I rinse which is mostly every day. For me it was worth it to invest in eco-friendly haircare. My color is also plant-based and only about 5% chemical. You can get Hairborist in the US as well!

Good luck at your new dentist!!

Nice bag!! I saw a similar one on Uniqlo which seems to be all the rage on tiktok as well. I even ALMOST bought it…

  9. I don’t really “get” the Roastery but imagine it will be super fun to be a VIP!

I can’t believe it’s almost time for back to school. I’m sure your new school will be great!

  10. I wanted that Lulu bag as well but I settled for the Curved Lines Belt Bag, which is now also sold out in the color I got. The one you got is nice! My dentist did the same thing a few years ago, retired and sold his business to a Russian woman. I stayed with her a couple of years then found a new dentist. It’s a PIA. Hope you have a great school year!

    • The bags sell out fast. I went today to the dentist and I do like him. He is VERY YOUNG. He comes from a generation of dentists. Both his grandfather and father are also dentists.

  11. Good luck setting up your classroom. I saw your photos on IG and you have a LOT of boxes to unpack!

I can’t wait to hear about your Roastery tour!

I would hate finding a new dentist. I hope you like the new one!

  12. I’m switching between using a tea tree solid shampoo from Trader Joe’s and Head & Shoulders currently, but it’s very-very dry here, so sadly that may not be too helpful on the humidity front.

I hope you have fun at Starbucks! 10,000 points is impressive — yay for friendship perks! 😛
